Great Motor Controller Link

Here is a great link summarizing ESC's for Battlebots. The only downside is that they all take RC Servo signals instead of PWM, which I believe will be more precise in my application. Right now I am mostly considering the RS80D or the IBC.

Why not use the famous Sabertooth 2x25... very easy to interface. I send packets from my computer to a max232 chip (usb) running hyperterminal, and these send packets to the driver to the wheelchair motors

Well, on problem is amps. These motors will be pulling lots in the little corrections it takes to balance. The next is latency. Although it shouldn't be too noticeable, the serial lag will be more that that of a servo or PWM controller.

Having worked with the RobotEQ blue box of magic, I would definitely suggest springing for one. They can handle a lot of current, have a great support network, and will accept most any interface. I'm working on a similar project, but a little closer to the RiotWheel.

re roboteq. check the troubleshooting portion of their forum. a lot of people have blown their's. i have blown two. my advice is to stay away from roboteq. poor documentation. poor support.
